Voz passiva

Na voz passiva, queremos dar ênfase para o objeto que está sofrendo a ação, e não para o sujeito. Não costumamos muito utilizar a voz passiva na linguagem cotidiana, já que ela é considerada mais formal e comum na escrita. Usando a mesma frase anterior como exemplo, temos:
The clothes are being washed by Pedro. – As roupas estão sendo lavadas por Pedro.
A voz passiva é bastante usada, podendo ser encontrada em textos científicos e na mídia, especialmente em artigos de jornais e revistas.
É construída da seguinte forma:
Estrutura:
Sujeito + VERBO TO BE (concordando com o sujeito) + Verbo principal (no particípio passado) + PREPOSIÇÃO ‘BY’ + QUEM FAZ A AÇÃO
Ex:
Someone stole my smartphone. – Alguém roubou meu celular. (active voice)
My smartphone was stolen. – Meu celular foi roubado.
(passive voice)
- Como mudar uma frase em inglês da voz ativa para voz passiva:
Primeiramente precisamos localizar o objeto na voz ativa, já que ele passará a ser sujeito na voz passiva.
Pedro is washing the clothes – the clothes é o objeto
Depois é preciso reconhecer em qual forma verbal encontra-se o verbo principal, no caso, o verbo to be.
Pedro is washing the clothes – o verbo está no simple present
Conhecer e colocar a forma de particípio passado do verbo principal para formar a voz passiva.
Pedro is washing the clothes – present continuous, ação contínua
The clothes are being washed… (plural)
Na voz passiva, o autor da ação só é mencionado se for necessário. Se mencionarmos quem ou o que praticou a ação usamos by.
Pedro is washing the clothes – importante mencionar quem está praticando a ação
The clothes are being washed by Pedro.
- Quando usar a passive voice?”
Usamos a passive voice quando a pessoa que pratica a ação é desconhecida ou não é relevante ao tipo de informação que queremos passar. Você quer dar ênfase à ação, não à pessoa.
